TSCME Sacrament Policy & Sacred View of Medicine

Sacred Understanding

We believe that everything is a medicine and everything can be a poison.

All of life — the natural world and all that has been created — is part of God.

For as many people as there are on this Earth, there are that many paths to God, for we are all part of God. The first rule of Ayurveda teaches that all disease stems from a separation from God.

The plants, animals, waters, stones, and elements were given to the people to support our lives. In return, we are to offer our respect, make offerings, and be fully present in our relationship with them.

Role of Sacraments

Our sacraments are tools and conduits for connection with God and Self.

We honor all medicines and do not place arbitrary limits on their existence. However, their use within TSCME must be:

  • Conscious — taken with awareness and sacred intention

  • Respectful — used in prayer and reverence

  • Guided — following the counsel of elders and medicine carriers who have come before

Each medicine carries a Doctrine and Protocol — instructions for its use, its timing, and its relationship with the people. We ask that all members respect and follow these traditions with discernment.

Sacred Law Above All

As a religious body, TSCME holds that God’s Law, as revealed through Creation, Spirit, and the wisdom of our Elders, is the highest authority.

We acknowledge the existence of human statutes and jurisdictional regulations, yet our primary covenant is to the Sacred Law entrusted to us since time immemorial.

In the exercise of our faith:

  • All sacrament work is guided by prayer, protocol, and the teachings of our Elders.

  • We will always strive to act in harmony with the safety of our members, our communities, and the well-being of all Creation.

  • Where man-made statutes conflict with our religious duty, we stand in our spiritual sovereignty while navigating such conflicts with discernment and wisdom.

Our Understanding of Medicine

We believe that everything is both a potential medicine and a potential poison. All of life — the natural and created world — is of God.

As many people as there are upon the Earth, there are as many paths to God, for we are all expressions of the Divine.

In Ayurveda, the first rule teaches that all disease stems from separation from God. Plants, animals, and sacred elements were given to the people to sustain and heal life. In turn, we are called to give respect back — through offerings, presence, and prayer — when working with these medicines as conduits for connection to God and Self.

We honor all medicines and do not limit their use so long as they are approached:

  • Consciously and with respect

  • In prayer

  • According to the guidance of our Elders and medicine carriers who have come before

Each medicine comes with a doctrine and protocol — both for the people and for the times. We ask that these be respected and followed with discernment.

Awareness in Practice

Members are encouraged to be mindful of their status — whether they identify as a citizen, a national, or hold another legal position — and to understand their legal jurisdiction.

Know the difference between God’s Law / Natural Law and man-made statutes:

  • Under higher law, we hold the right to practice our faith and work with sacred medicines, provided no harm is done to another.

  • Statutes (“laws” written by governments) are often enforced under color of law. They can be challenged and overturned in court but may still be used as grounds for arrest or harassment.

When walking in truth and integrity, you may beat the wrap (prevail in court) but you may not beat the ride (avoid being taken into custody).

For generations, consciousness and sacred medicine practice have been suppressed. We are not telling you to break the law or that you are above it — only that the legal landscape is complex (“the matrix”) and not purely black and white.

Today, more than ever, legal precedent exists in your favor when you walk with integrity, respect, and in alignment with sacred protocol.

Always move with conscious respect toward all beings, knowing they are reflections of you.

Legal Protections

Our sacramental practice is protected under:

  • Legal Standing & Religious Rights Declaration

  • Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA)

  • American Indian Religious Freedom Act (AIRFA)

  • Relevant State and Tribal Sovereignty Laws
